Children’s Group Link officially adopted the Governance Code, being a voluntary Code of Practice for Good Governance of Community, Voluntary and Charitable Organisations in Ireland, on July 12th 2016. Adoption of the Governance Code was officially announced on November 11th 2016 by Mr. Fergus Finlay, CEO of Barnardos and also in his role as a director of the Charities Regulatory Authority.

The Governance Code is a series of principles that formalise the various elements required to manage and operate an organisation like Children’s Group Link in an accountable, responsible and transparent manner. The board of Children’s Group Link has always strived to ensure that the charity operates to the highest standards possible and identified the Governance Code as a tool that would help to further that aim. Children’s Group Link has and continues to operate in an open and transparent manner.

To ensure that the work was completed to the highest standard possible, the board determined there was a need for a board sub-group supported by outside professional assistance and hired John Warren, JE Warren Consulting to help put the necessary systems in place. The overall process took almost two years to complete.

Children’s Group Link is one of the few Special Projects for Youth (SPY Projects) to adopt the Governance Code and the first in the southeast to do so. The adoption of the code makes our organisation more attractive to funders and reinforces and strengthens the public perception and belief that Children’s Group Link is an accountable, transparent and compliant organisation.
